New Isuzu D-Max Arctic Trucks AT35 pickup: prices and full specs announced

The off-road focused Isuzu D-Max Arctic Trucks AT35 pickup promises serious off-road ability for nearly £50,000

Isuzu has announced that its D-Max Arctic Trucks AT35 pickup will go on sale from May 3rd, 2022 priced from £47,999.

Isuzu has previously partnered with Icelandic pick-up modifier Arctic Trucks to develop a beefed-up version of the previous generation D-Max, but this is the first time the AT35 conversion has been added to the new model range.

The Japanese manufacturer first previewed the pre-production D-Max AT35 model at the 2021 Commercial Vehicle Show, where its aggressive new look and increased ground clearance highlighted the pick-up truck’s enhanced off-road ability.

Changes to the standard D-Max include the addition of a strengthened chassis, raised Bilstein suspension and large-diameter 35-inch tyres on exclusive alloy wheels. Wider wheelarches cover the tyres, while extended running boards help with access to the raised double-cab interior. And, the good news for business users is that the enhancements do not affect the D-Max’s payload or towing capacity, which means it remains classified as a commercial vehicle for tax purposes.

William Brown, Managing Director, Isuzu UK said “We are so pleased to launch the Isuzu D-Max Arctic Trucks AT35, having first unveiled the concept at the CV Show last year. This new halo model for the Isuzu range really demonstrates how adaptable and versatile the D-Max platform is, and with the AT35 we showcase how inspiring and extreme the vehicle can be…”

The D-max AT35 uses a bespoke Bilstein performance suspension system that helps to increase overall elevation by 50mm compared to the standard pick-up model. Ground clearance is now 266mm at the front and 290mm at the rear, with approach and departure angles of 35 degrees and 29 degrees respectively. Comfort levels shouldn’t be overly affected, with Isuzu claiming that the bigger tyres, performance springs and dampers improve the ride over rough surfaces without affecting on-road dynamics.

Inside, there are Arctic Trucks-branded headrests, floor mats and sill covers, while the rest of the cab is generously equipped, thanks to the fact that the AT35 is based on top-spec V-Cross trim.

Standard kit includes a nine-inch multimedia system with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto connectivity, a wireless smartphone charging plate and an eight-speaker sound system, while the leather-trimmed seats feature Arctic Trucks badging on the headrests.

Under the skin, the AT35 uses the same running gear as the rest of the D-Max range - a 162bhp 1.9-litre diesel engine with switchable four-wheel drive. A rear diff lock is available, so the only limiting factor to this truck's practical off-road ability will be its extra width.

The Isuzu D-Max Arctic Trucks AT35 pickup is priced from £47,999 for a six-speed manual version, or £49,499 if you opt for a variant with automatic transmission.
